Scion Teases iA Sedan, First Ever Four-Door Sedan In Company's Lineup

With Scion's mixed results in terms of overall sales, as well as in attracting more older buyers to dealerships than younger ones, Toyota's youth-oriented brand has released a teaser image that provides us a glimpse of its upcoming four-door sedan model, which would be the first such model that the brand has ever offered.

While Scion has so far kept technical details regarding the car under wraps, it did reveal that the car will be officially known as the iA, which falls into line with the company's recent naming scheme, which was first previewed on the iM hatchback concept. However, it is Scion's definition of each letter that has us scratching our collective heads, with the brand claiming that the "i" stands for "intriguing, individual, and easy on customers income" while the"A" highlights "the car's aggresive styling" as well as "its accomdoating trunk". Hopefully this means that the iA will be affordable for younger entry-level buyers while still offering features that many have come to expect from a mid-size sedan.

Past rumors have suggested that the iA will be based on the fruits of a partnership with Mazda, and is believed to be based on a platform that was developed by the two companies. While this is not the FR-S sedan that many people were expecting, Mazdas have always been known for their suprising amounts of driving fun; I look for some of that eagerness to make itself felt in the iA when pushed in spirited driving. Based on the sole image that was released by Scion, look for the iA to boast much of the aggresive lines that have come to define so many of its current models: a large front grille being accented by sharp lines as well as angular headlights that feature their own set of curves and jagged lines. Expect the rear fascia to be just as bold and aggresive which should please buyers looking for a departure from other rivals which look much more conservative in comparison.

The iA's on-sale date has not been released, but look for the car to be in Scion showrooms by the end of the year, with more information regarding its performance hardware and interior features to arrive closer to its official debut at the 2015 New York Auto Show in April.
