Bulletproof Bus Can Be Yours for $38,000

Celebrities make a lot of money, and when you have a lot of money you can buy a lot of cool stuff. There are few things cooler than motor vehicles, and we have often written about the cars of the stars on this blog.

When you think about car collections and celebrities, Jay Leno is automatically going to come to mind. Leno has one of the most extraordinary collections anywhere, and, according to an article published last summer in the Los Angeles Times, he had 130 cars and 93 motorcycles in his possession when the article was written.

Leno may be synonymous with car collecting, but you have to assume that every celebrity has a few. Movie stars, television personalities, rock stars, and athletes have the cash that it takes to have a ride for every occasion.

Motor vehicles that were owned by the "beautiful people" have a certain allure that drives their value up when they go on sale, and this is certainly understandable. At the same time, there are vehicles that were owned by politicians that enter the marketplace. They may be celebrities of a different ilk, but they are celebrities all the same, so their offerings also garner attention.

Margaret Thatcher was the Prime Minister of Great Britain from 1975 to 1990; she is the only woman who has ever held the post. When vehicles that were previously used by heads of state go on sale, they are usually limousines or something similar. However, a very different type of vehicle that was designed for Thatcher can be yours, if you are willing to pay the price.

Suppose Jack Bauer from 24 wanted to order up a bus to get the president and his/her entourage around safely. This is the kind of vehicle we're talking about. A modified bulletproof bus that was designed to keep Thatcher safe from villains is being sold by its current owner, a guy named Nick Mead.

The vehicle is not pretty, but it will protect you from biological attackers because it has a special air filtration system. As you might imagine, the bus has a bit of power to get away from nefarious types. It comes with a supercharged Rolls-Royce engine, and it has only a couple of bullet holes to speak of, according to the owner.

Mead is asking $38,000, but he says the price is negotiable. Personally, I can think of better ways to spend this kind of money, but then again, I got rid of my tinfoil hat years ago.

I can see doomsday preppers lining up around the block for this.
