MINI Unveils Clubman Vision GT Virtual Concept Car

Joining the growing list of auto companies that have unveiled a Vision GT-themed virtual concept car for the popular Gran Turismo 6 video game, MINI took the wraps off of its Clubman Vision GT car, which is a compelling look at a race-ready MINI that embodies some of the futuristic cues made possible by GT6.

Based on the Mini Clubman, the design here is more traditional than some of the wilder borderline sci-fi-style exterior designs that have come to define other Vision GT cars, and the Clubman-sourced roots are easy to spot when viewed from multiple angles. The virtual car features bigger air inlets, a slightly lowered ride height, a front splitter, as well as a wider track and bigger wheel arches that further embody the concept's race-ready purpose. MINI claims that the concept is powered by a 395 horsepower engine that allows the digitally crafted speed demon to make the sprint to 62 mph in a healthy 3.9 seconds before reaching a final top speed of 180 mph. All of this muscle is sent to all four wheels via a race-spec all-wheel-drive system as well as a sequential six-speed gearbox with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

"MINI has many highly emotional achievements to tis name in motor racing," stated MINI design chief Anders Warming. "The MINI Clubman Vision Gran Turismo literally puts these onto the virtual race track in Grant Turismo 6. The image of a go-kart on the road has recurring appeal." We certainly agree considering MINI's long history with motor racing as well as some of the achievements that the spunky little cars have managed to rack up during their time in production.

The concept also joins other Vision GT cars that have been created by companies such as Inifiniti, Chevrolet, Alpine, Subaru, and Mazda in what could be a new trend in new product unveils if other automakers decide to pool their talents into creating Vision GT cars of their very own. Either way, owners of GT6 should be pleased with this latest unveiling, and look forward to seeing what other Vision GT cars will make their virtual debuts in the near future.
