Kia Teases Midsize Sedan Segment Ahead Of Geneva, Could Hint At Updated Optima

With the 2015 Geneva Motor Show fast apporaching, Kia has released a brief statement as well as a lone teaser image of a new concept car that could very well hint at the design direction for the next generation Kia Optima.

While Kia was uncharcteristically brief when it came to formal details regarding the exact nature of the concept, there are a few tantalizing details that can be extracted from this vehicle when one takes a closer look. For instance, Kia claims the concept is firmly seated in the D-segment sedan class, which is roughly equivalent to the mid-size sedan segment here in the US. With that particular refrence in mind, all fingers point to the Optima which is currently five years old, and is one of the oldest models in Kia's current lineup. This means that it is long overdue for a replacement very soon, and this concept could very well be a compelling sneak preview of what the next generation Optima sedan would look like.

Unlike the current Optima, the concept embraces many European styling cues in its exterior design; it was penned by designers from the company's design studio in Frankfurt, Germany. This is most prevealant in its sharper-looking headlights which borrow a page or two from the Jaguar school of design, while an equally slick grille treatment adds a much needed dose of aggresion to the overall design language. These styling tweaks would help the upcoming Optima visually standout from its rivals in this crowded segement, and build upon the recent success that the company has achieved.

It is also unknown what is exactly powering the concept, but the "Elegant Energy" moniker that was slipped into the company's official release could hint at either a hybrid powertrain or a fully electric setup that was designed to achieve impressive fuel economy numbers.

Look for more information to be revealed when it officially debuts in a few weeks with other details possibly being leaked in the day's prior to the opening of the show itself.
