Live the Dream With the 2015 Shelby GT

Carroll Shelby crafted an extraordinary legacy during his 89 years on the third rock from the Sun. He is best known for his automotive designing talents, but he initially made his mark as one of the best race car drivers of his generation.

Back in the 1950s Shelby was a two-time winner of the prestigious Driver of the Year title that is awarded by Sports Illustrated.

The man's legacy certainly lives in the hearts and minds of people who understand the industry, and many of the masterpieces that he designed still grace garages and roadways around the world. However, his name lives on in another very relevant way.

The company he founded back in 1962, Shelby American, is still going strong. It is located in fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada, but Shelby products are no gamble—anything that leaves this facility is a sure thing.

If you are looking for the ultimate Mustang, Shelby is the name of the game, and the big news coming out of the desert in 2015 is the spectacular new Shelby GT.

When you think about speed, the first thing that comes to mind is the power of the engine. We will get to that in a minute, but you also have to think about the weight that the engine is propelling. Many of the parts in the new Shelby GT are made of featherweight carbon fiber, and this modern innovation ratchets up the performance.

As for the engine, the achievement is spectacular. We are talking about a supercharged 5-liter V8 that is dubbed the Coyote. It is certainly not lacking in horsepower; the Coyote howls at 627 horses, and, according to reports, an upgraded 700-horsepower option will be offered when the car goes up for sale.

By now, you are probably salivating if you are a fan of American muscle, and I'm right there with you. This car is something special, and there is no substitute for the spirit of Carroll Shelby enveloping you when you get behind the wheel of your ultimate dream car.

Of course, there is the matter of affordability. If you go to a Ford dealership and buy a Mustang GT off the lot, you are looking at a price tag that will be just over $30,000.

To go whole hog with the Shelby, you have to, um, pony up another 40 grand, but hey, 70k is a small price to pay to live your automotive dream.
