Nissan To Introduce "Significant" Refresh For 2016 Altima

Nissan has officially confirmed that it has major plans for the 2016 Nissan Altima. The car's noticeable refresh will allow it to go toe-to-toe with rivals such as the Toyota Camry, Chevrolet Malibu, and the Ford Fusion in the hotly contested mid-size sedan segment.

While rivals such as the Chrysler 200 and the Kia Optima, with their bold styling and revamped interior designs, have certainly emerged as compelling targets for the Altima, Nissan revealed that the Camry will be the sole model in its crosshairs when it begins work on the Altima's new suit of clothes. The revamped styling is only part of the broader changes that will greet customers for the 2016 model year. The new Altima will also debut a new interior design language to replace the current car's bland design theme, as well as a suite of chassis and suspension tweaks designed to give the Altima better handling behavior and ride comfort when compared to its archrival the Camry.

Nissan North America's Vice President of Product Planning, Pierre Loing, revealed in an interview with Automotive News that "Camry did something very huge". "I'm not sure we're ging to that extent. But we're going to do something significant for the Altima for the midcycle." The Altima's radical refresh is the latest iteration of Nissan's current design language which was first spearheaded by the 2015 Murano CUV. The most significant change in the case of the Altima will be its front fascia; the current Altima's rather bland vanilla envelope-esque design would be ditched in favor of the familiar "V-Motion" front end which features swept boomerang-shaped headlights, as well as a chrome v-shape grille. That should give the car a bolder visual presence when viewed side-by-side with many rivals. Look for the rear fascia to also embrace the new design language with revamped taillamps as well as a revised rear bumper to further embolden its newfound design mojo. In addition to the forementioned styling upgrades, look for the refereshed Altima to also bring buyers an increase in overall fuel economy, as well as new levels of technology inside and out to further enhance the overall driving experience, especially for consumers that strive to have fun when taking their Altima out on the road.

The company has not formally unveiled a launch date for the revamped 2016 Nissan Altima or what other suprises are lurking in the revamped cars bag of tricks; look for more information regarding the model to emerge at a future auto show, possibly either later this year, or sometime early next year. Only time will tell whether these changes will be enough to make the car a more credible threat to the Camry's dominant position in the mid-size sedan sales race, but this compelling preview does sound promisiing. We look forward to learning more regarding the 2016 Nissan Altima as it becomes avalible.
