Quick Hits:Trending Classic Car News

Here are some quick takes on the potential dramas and traumas of buying and selling used cars...

Peter Max Hit With Lawsuit Over Sale of Corvette Collection
Just about all of us would like to own a classic Corvette, and two would be better than one, three would be better than two, and so on. Peter Max, the psychedelic illustrator and graphic artist, was in the automotive news this year when he sold his neglected collection of 36 Corvettes.

Max had a model for every year from 1953 through 1989, and that is definitely a motor head's dream come true, but he really isn't a car guy. He wanted to use the cars for a psychedelic art project, but stuff happened, and the project never came to fruition.

The cars were sold over the summer, and now, Jeff Wallner and Kenneth Simmons have filed a $1 million lawsuit against Max and his agent. They say that he agreed to pay them a 10 percent commission for selling the cars, but the agent, Larry Moskowitz, allegedly wound up selling the collection out from under them.

According to reports, the agreement was oral, and, as they say, agreements like that are not worth the paper they're printed on. Time will tell if that adage proves to be true in this case.

Reynolds' Bandit Promo Car Sold in Las Vegas
A black 1977 Pontiac Trans Am that was used as a promotional car for the movie Smokey and the Bandit was sold at auction in Las Vegas. Julien's Auction expected the car to fetch somewhere in the vicinity of $70,000, but the bidders drove the sale price up to a whopping $450,000.

You have to wonder what a Trans Am that was actually driven in the movie would go for when you see a promotional vehicle selling for that kind of money.

A license plate that was owned by Reynolds went for $6000, and a Smokey and the Bandit jacket sold for nearly $35,000. Clearly, there are some people with money to burn out there who still have Bandit fever.

Barn Find Times a Hundred
We are always hearing about classic cars being found in barns, and it is great to have these forgotten jewels see the light of day after spending decades in the shadows. However, a recent barn find in France truly boggles the mind.

Artcurial, a French auction house, recently found a collection of 100 classic cars that Roger Baillon collected before he died. Sixty of them will reportedly be going on the block on February 6, 2015, at the Retromobile Salon.

We are talking about some the most valuable collectible models you can find, so we will be watching the results of the auction closely.
