Veteran Gets Keys to 2015 Challenger Hellcat

When you think of celebrities that are all about cars, one name is probably going to pop into your mind above all others. The longtime host of The Tonight Show, Jay Leno, is well-known for his off-the-chain collection of cars, both classic and new.

Over the summer the Los Angeles Times got a chance to talk to Leno about his massive collection. At that time, he had an accumulation of 130 cars and 93 motorcycles. He uses an aircraft hangar to house the collection, and, in addition to the vehicles themselves, he also has a huge store of parts and automotive mementos.

He told the paper that he never really intended to assemble a collection for the sake of collecting motor vehicles. The guy simply loves cars and motorcycles, and he buys vehicles that he wants to drive. Of course, he doesn't get rid of them, so a collection developed, even though he wasn't specifically trying to become a collector.

Leno definitely has an affinity for muscle. Around the time the article was being written, he found it hard to stop driving his McLaren super car. The car set him back $1.2 million, and you get a lot engine for that kind of money—903 horses worth to be exact.

Jay Leno made his money being funny, but, apparently, he takes his commitment to American troops quite seriously. He travels around with a USO comedy show entertaining members of the U.S. Armed Forces, and he recently made the news with a rather heartwarming show of generosity.

Corporal Ethan Laberge was seriously injured while he was serving in Afghanistan. Leno met Laberge on one of his tours, and he found that Laberge is also a big car lover.

He gave the veteran a ride in a 2015 Challenger SRT Hellcat, but that's not all that he gave him. After the ride, he gave him the car.

When you are a guy like Jay Leno and you're giving somebody a car, you go big. The Challenger SRT Hellcat has a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 under the hood, and it is rated at 707 horsepower. Car and Driver magazine tested a Challenger Hellcat, and it went from 0 to 60 in 3.6 seconds, and it covered a quarter of a mile in just under 12 seconds.

It's hard to thank an inured veteran enough, but it is nice to see one car guy doing what he can for another.
