Mercedes Reintroducing the Maybach' Somebody Call Rick Ross!!

Back in 2002, Mercedes relaunched the Maybach brand to compete with Rolls Royce and Bentley at the top of the market. The ultra-lux brand quickly found favor with Asian moguls and American rappers, but high production costs and low volume led to its demise in 2012. Mercedes is hoping that the third time will be the charm, however, as they once again resurrect the Maybach name for a bespoke version of the new S-Class. So break out those gold chains and get ready for the reeeeeeeemix!

Set to debut later this month at the 2014 LA Auto Show, the 2016 Mercedes-Maybach is a high-trim package that will be available on both the 2016 Mercedes S500 and 2016 Mercedes S600. It will offer eight inches of additional rear legroom, along with unique exterior styling that will set it apart from your doctor’s S500. Mercedes hasn’t released many concrete details or photos, but recent spy photos have shown camouflaged test cars that have a more formal rear roofline, along with unique front and rear fascias. They have the same imposing presence as a 2016 Mercedes S-Class, but with a slightly different look.

The calling card of the 2016 Mercedes-Maybach S600 & S500 will be the bespoke interiors, which will likely offer the most decadent materials available. Pictures show bespoke seats and unique cabin details, but Mercedes has yet to regale us with all of the hedonistic details. The last Maybach offered numerous high-end leathers, woods, carpets, and even real stone trim. So this new version should offer a similar menu of fitments.

Since the 2016 Mercedes-Maybach is based on the current S-Class, the production costs should allow the name to stick around for a while. An SUV based on the GL-Class is also planned. Pricing hasn’t been announced, but you can expect it to be in line with the last Maybach’s $350k-$1 Million. Regardless, Jay Z, Bird Man, Rick Ross, and Puff Diddy should have no trouble affording one. But we wonder if the 2016 Mercedes-Maybach will be able to beat the last Maybach’s song mention number of 700?
