Review: 2015 Subaru Impreza

The updated 2015 Impreza boasts several new features and upgraded technology. It also gets a new front end which is based on the Subaru Legacy and puts a refreshed bumper, grille, and headlights on the sedan and hatchback versions. The sedan also gets new lip spoiler to boost its aerodynamic capabilities.

Standard features include a rearview camera, cruise control, and seven-inch color touchscreen infotainment systems. The all-voice-controlled system has Bluetooth capabilities, as well as a GPS navigation system which does not require you to lose sight of the road while tuning to favorite music, finding out just where you’re going, or calling to say you won’t be there on time. With automatic climate control, and an AM/FM/CD stereo and HD radio, you may not want to leave your car anyway. The interior has been updated to include new door and shifter trim and a myriad of bins, trays, and cubbies along with necessary drink holders. There are two 12 volt power outlets on board as well. The rear seats now fold down to adapt to larger cargo requirements.

Optional features include the impressive EyeSight Driver Assist which gives the driver Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking, and Vehicle Lane Departure Warning capabilities. Eyesight uses two cameras mounted above the rearview mirror and provides audial and visual warnings, as well as the ability to react to an unsafe situation even if you don’t. Steering Responsive Fog Lights are available; it allows the fog lights to operate independently of each other to shed light on turns depending on the speed of the vehicle and the steering angle. Other features are available depending on which model you choose, such as automatic climate control, auto on/off headlights, and an AM/FM/CD stereo with an HD radio.

All new Imprezas have 148-horsepower, 2.0-liter Subaru Boxer engines and all-wheel-drive. The Premium and Limited models have continuously variable transmissions while the 2.0i and Sport Premium models come with a 5-speed manual transmission.

The fuel economy has seen improvement as well with an average 28 mph in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. As far as safety goes, the federal government has given the new Impreza a 5-star overall safety rating, while the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded it the Top Safety Pick Accolade.

Pricing for the four-door manual-transmission 2.0i model has been set at $18,195.
