Ford Continues Adding Jobs

The saying goes that things are bad all over when the economy takes a hit like the one we are still recovering from. Ford seems to be the exception to that rule. The automaker has just added 1,200 jobs and another shift to its Kansas City Assembly Plant in order to keep up with the demand for the new Transit Van which went on sale in June.

August showed the third consecutive month of growth in sales of the Transit, which replaces the Ford E-Series Van. So far, the company has sold 2,085 of the vehicles with 1,099 of those selling in August alone.

With the demand continually rising, more workers are naturally needed. The Kansas City plant happens to be the biggest of the Ford plants and was expanded in 2011. It now boasts two body shops, two paint shops, and two final assembly lines. Over the next two years after the expansion, 2,800 workers were added to the payroll. With the recent addition that brings the total number of employees at this location to more than 6,000.

Kansas City is not the only place that Ford has added staff though. Since the company made a pledge in 2011 to add 12,000 positions by 2015, they have added jobs in eight of their plants. The largest addition was to the Louisville Assembly Plant which boosted workers by 3,600.

With the most recent 1,200 jobs added in Kansas, the company has surpassed its original goal of 12,000 to put their total jobs added at 14,000 with several months left before their 2015 deadline.
