Rumored 2016 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Eco-Friendly SUV Coming Our Way?

There is a huge push for more environmentally friendly vehicles. As of right now, the Toyota Prius is the lead when folks talk about hybrids, but recently Toyota announced that the 2016 Toyota Highlander Hybrid is on its way.

The Toyota Highlander Hybrid promises to employ new hybrid concepts. The hybrid engine in the new Highlander is actually referred to as a Highlander Fuel Cell Hybrid. According to industry experts this particular type of engine derives energy from compressed hydrogen (mixed with oxygen in a fuel stack) to power the vehicle's 90 kW electric motor (which will also charge the lithium-ion battery). The Highlander would be able to travel 431 kilometers on one tank of compressed hydrogen while producing zero emissions. According to rumors the new 2016 Toyota Highlander Hybrid can opt for a 3.5-liter engine along with 4-wheel traction. Experts believe that this engine combination can create 280hp and that is strong for any mid-size SUV. The new Toyota Highlander is predicted to save lots of fuel, some estimate as much as 40 percent.

The Toyota Highlander Hybrid will get a few improvements on the exterior too. It will offer drivers a newly developed physique that is much more aerodynamic than those midsized SUVs that came before it. There will be a spacious cabin along with third row seating. A 5-door vehicle, the Highlander will also have a wide screen interface, a navigation system, upgraded speakers, Bluetooth connectivity, and a five-point safety system.

In terms of futuristic cars, the Toyota Highlander Hybrid seems to have it all covered. An eco-friendly concept with zero emission and a sporty look that offers drivers the “cool” factor while allowing them to be earth-friendly is just what the industry has ordered, and Toyota appears poised to meet that need. At this point the folks at Toyota are setting a release date for some time in 2015, so we will still have to wait to see if all the rumors are true, and—if they are—we can’t wait to see it.
