2014 Nissan Leaf Recall

Nissan is issuing a recall on 196 2014 Leafs (Leaves?) because there is a problem with the vehicle shutting down. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration explains that the problem is with the motor control circuit board which can cause the inverter to fail. If the inverter fails the vehicle will shut down thereby increasing the risk of crashes and injuries.

So far there have been no crashes, injuries or deaths associated with the problem. This is likely because the number of affected vehicles which have been sold is so low. The faulty circuit boards were installed in cars which were built between April 15th and April 24th of this year. No models built prior to the 15th are affected and those built after the 24th are still at the manufacturing plant and will be repaired before being sent to dealerships.

Dealers were told to stop selling the vehicles on May 5th. All these will be repaired at the dealership before being offered for sale to the public. No other Nissan or Infiniti models are affected.

The formal recall will begin on July 7th when letters will go out to owners with inverters that need to be replaced. This will be done at no charge to the owner. If you feel you have one of the vehicles which will need to be repaired you do not have to wait for your letter. You local Nissan dealer is authorized to do the repair at your convenience.

Nissan can be contacted at 1-800-647-7261.
