Ford Clears Smoke From Tailpipe

If you drive a Ford or Lincoln and have noticed your tailpipe smoking, listen up.

Ford has issued a service bulletin for the following vehicles:
• 2010-2014 Ford Flex and Taurus vehicles
• 2013-2014 Ford Explorers
• 2010-2014 Lincoln MKS and MKT cars

All of the vehicles are equipped with a turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine.

The engine’s crankcase ventilation system is improperly handling the crankcase emissions which is causing excessive oil use in addition to smoke, and possibly oil, coming from the tailpipe when the vehicle idles.

The repair requires the installation of an improved valve cover, new PVC valve, and new crankcase vent separator. It will require about three hours of service time, so schedule your appointment appropriately.

This is a service bulletin, not a recall, so the repairs may or may not be covered depending on the state of warranties and service plans. The work may be covered if:
• The car is still under its new car warranty
• The car has an emissions warranty
• The car has an extended service plan. Check the sections on emissions, powertrain, and drivability to be certain.

There will be no notices sent to owners of affected vehicles, so call your dealer if you aren’t sure. Have your vehicle identification number ready.

Questions may be referred to Ford at 1-800-392-3673 or Lincoln at 1-800-521-4140. Refer to TSB Number 14-0114 when calling either number.
