The Perfect Summer Road Trip: San Diego Automotive Museum

Summer is here, and the time is right for a road trip if you are a classic car fan. We try to provide suggestions for automobile lovers who are looking for interesting ways to spend some spare time, and we have a great idea for those who have ready access to southern California.

When you think about SoCal, Los Angeles may come to mind first, and there are some great destinations in L.A. for classic car aficionados. The Petersen Automotive Museum is certainly a must-see if you can get to LA, but there is another big city to the south that is also a fantastic place to visit.

That city is San Diego, and there are many things to do in “America's Finest City.” The weather is on point year-round, and you can hit the beach, enjoy world-class cuisine, and visit attractions like Sea World and the world-renowned San Diego Zoo.

You can also visit an amazing automobile museum: The San Diego Automotive Museum, located right in Balboa Park. The array of classic cars and motorcycles on display is truly extraordinary. There are some rotating exhibits that keep things fresh for those making a return visit, and there are also some very cool permanent collections.

One of the collections permanently on display is Show Stoppers, and it is aptly named. Mind-boggling classics in this collection include a 1911 Ford Model T Speedster, a 1913 Pierce-Arrow, a rare 1932 Riley Nine, and a stunning 1953 Jaguar XK 120.

If you are partial to classic motorcycles, you will be in your element at the San Diego Automotive Museum. There is the Harley-Davidson Collection, and they also have a collection of Indian bikes.

Indian was a pioneering enterprise when it was originally founded in 1901. Within 10 years, the company was the most prolific producer of motorcycles in the United States. You can learn all the details when you visit the San Diego Automotive Museum.

You will undoubtedly have a memorable experience at the San Diego Automotive Museum, open every day of the week, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is $8.50 for adults 16 years of age and older, and the youth admission price $4.00.

Make the most of the summer and check out the San Diego Automotive Museum; it can be the centerpiece of a great road trip for the entire family.
