AC Frua Is Looking for a Home

Today, when we hear about hybrid cars we naturally think about modern energy-efficient vehicles that can run on both electricity and gasoline. However, back in the day there was a different definition of a hybrid car.

There were certain cars that were put together by combining components that were manufactured in a variety of different countries. One such vehicle was the AC Frua, a very rare performance car produced from 1965 through 1973 by the British company AC Cars Limited.

The AC Frua chassis was manufactured in Great Britain, but it had an Italian-made body. The engine was made in the United States by the Ford Motor Company. The standard engine was made of iron, a big block 428 V8 that could produce 345 horsepower.

There were some models that came equipped with a souped-up Ford 427, which could generate 385 horsepower.

Autocar magazine put the car to the test, taking a Frua with a 428 to the track to see exactly what it was capable of from a performance standpoint. The car was able to go from zero to sixty in a rapid 6.2 seconds, and it maxed out at 141 miles per hour. It was actually somewhat fuel efficient in spite of the heavy duty performance. The magazine determined that the AC Frua got over 15 miles per gallon.

These cars were not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. The price tag on the AC Frua was more than double the cost of a Jaguar E-Type.

The AC Frua is an extremely rare automobile. There were just 81 produced between 1965 and 1973. There were 49 coupes, 29 ragtops, and three cars that had specially designed bodies.

If you are interested in adding a classic AC Frua to your collection, you are in luck. Hyman Limited is a dealer located in St. Louis, Missouri. They have a stunning 1968 AC Frua Coupe in their inventory at the present time. It's a blue beauty with a black interior. It has the 428 engine, and there are 82,000 miles on the odometer.

According to the Hyman website, the car can be yours for just $269,500. That's a lot of money, but we are talking about an extremely rare motor vehicle.
