Third Time is Not Charming For Escape Owners

Ford's Escape SUV is having a hard time. At least those from 2013 and 2014. Ford has just announced a third recall on this vehicle which will cover 581,986 of them.

It has come to the auto maker's attention that the doors on Escapes built between October 5th, 2013 and April 10th, 2014 have suffered an assembly misalignment between the exterior door handle and the outer door panel. This means that the door can be difficult to close. Far worse, though, is the possibility that the door can come open while the vehicle is being driven. This leads to the chance of the driver or passenger falling out of the vehicle. If that's not incentive to wear your seat belt, I don't know what is.

The first recall on this SUV was for “close pedal placement”; the second was due to a faulty fuel line which could lead to a fire.

Ford will begin notifying owners with recall notices on May 26th. Dealers are authorized to inspect and correct the mounting hardware of the door handles where necessary at no cost to owners. There have been no accidents, injuries or fatalities connected to this problem to date.

Owners can reach Ford at 1-800-392-3676 and should refer to recall code 14S03 with questions. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration also has information on their website and can be reached on their Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
