Chevrolet Offers Some Z/28 Parts for Non-Z/28 Camaros

GM has allegedly backed down from their stance on a full blown sales ban on 2014 Camaro Z/28 parts for non-Z/28 Camaro models. This will allow standard models to be outfitted with some of the track-centric upgrades and body pieces the new Camaro Z/28 was built with.

Although many of the parts will still be restricted, some of them will be included in packages anyone can purchase without owning a Z/28 trim model. Included in the selection is a suspension kit that includes Z/28 spool-valve damper, springs, sway bars, and various other upgraded suspension parts for the front and rear. It’s also expect that the company will offer a helical differential kit with a 3.91:1 gear ratio and built-in heat exchanger.

Other upgrades taken off the block list include the brake cool ducts from the Z/28, the Z/28 cold air intake, exhaust manifolds from the model, Racaro seats, and the exhaust system from the Z/28 are included.

Chevrolet is even allowing the basic trim Camaros to receive a Z/28 aero kit. This kit includes a front splitter, wheel lip extension, underbody tray, and the rear spoiler from the Z/28 designs.

Prior reports on the situation suggestion that nearly all of the Z/28 specific parts would only be available for purchase by verified owners. This move was said to be an attempt to clone the Z/28 models. Doing this would also keep aftermarket parts companies from making their own versions for cheaper replacements.

The move quickly gained attention and negative reactions from both future Z/28 owners and enthusiasts. Concerns over how this would likely prompt a huge influx of Z/28 Camaros were immediately voiced.

There’s no word on what changed the minds of the people over at General Motors, but of the 35 parts exclusive to Z/28 models, many are still restricted. Amongst these parts are front facias, badges, hood scoop assemblies, and a few others.

Production of the 2014 model is limited to just 500 units being made, all of which are already spoken for. The price tag on the exclusive models is $75,000+. 2015 Z/28s will be much easier to get hold of as 2,500 units will be made during production for that year model.
