Minor Recall Avoids a Major Problem

It appears Chrysler is taking no chances when it comes to avoiding GM’s issue with waiting too long to recall problem vehicles. The automaker has announced a recall on just 159 trucks with a potential transmission fault.

The recall covers 2014 Ram 1500 trucks which were built over a 12-day period in late January and early February this year. One of the companies which produce transmissions for Chrysler vehicles notified the manufacturer that it may have shipped them gearboxes which will argue a bit when shifted into Park. All of the trucks have an 8-speed automatic transmission. An inventory of the affected vehicles done in mid-March revealed that 125 of them are in the United States; 99 are still on dealer lots. 32 were shipped to Canada and the remainder are outside the US and Europe.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not issued any investigations and is not involved in the actions of Chrysler at this point. This is a voluntary recall and there have been no accidents, injuries or fatalities connected with the defective gearboxes. In fact, there haven’t even been any complaints. Chrysler is proactively dealing with this issue and will notify owners by mail if they are in possession of an affected vehicle. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the transmissions at no charge to owners.

If you fell you have one of these trucks and have questions for Chrysler they may be contacted at 1-800-853-1403.
