2nd Promaster Recall

2nd Promaster Recall

Chrysler has just issued a voluntary recall notice for 6,800 2014 Ram Promaster vans. These are the same vehicles that were involved in another recall concerning the accelerator pedal, which had the potential to get stuck in the open throttle position. That recall affected 10,000 of the vehicles.

The new recall involves the brakes on vehicles built between July 1st and November 15th of 2013. A tool used by workers during the assembly process damaged some of the brake hoses, causing the brake fluid to leak, thereby increasing the time it takes to stop the van. This, of course, could lead to crashes, although there have been no accidents or injuries reported from this factor thus far. More than half of the affected vehicles are still in dealer hands; only about 2% of the total are prone to have this problem.

The recall will officially begin later this month and Chrysler has halted use of the tool which caused the problem. All vans covered in this recall should be inspected by a dealer and, if the brake hoses have been compromised, the manufacturer will replace them at no charge to the owner. If you have questions Chrysler may be contacted at 800-853-1403. There is no official recall by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at this time, but if you call the manufacturer you may refer to their internal number P03.
