Ford Makes Fantasy A Reality

Did you ever watch the TV show Eureka on Syfy? If you didn’t you missed a fun geeky show and you might want to pick it up on Netflix. One of the characters in the show was a house named SARAH (Self Actuated Residential Automated Habitat). She could do all the things your current security system does along with lots of other things, including having conversations and occasionally throwing fits. She was entirely voice-activated and knew all inhabitants and visitors through advanced voice recognition. At one point, she was put into a car (not the house, just the operating system) and she began to suggest places to go since she had never had the ability to “go” before.

Ford has some pretty cool technology which shows that fact and fiction go hand in hand. Debuting on the 2015 Mustang is the Sync AppLink in-car connectivity system. The name isn’t as cool as SARAH’s but it definitely rivals what she can do.

- Want a pizza on the way home? Using Domino’s Mobile App, you can order one on the way home and have it available for pick up or delivery.

- Need a parking space in a crowded lot? Just ask your car using the Parkopedia app and one will be found.

- Download the HABU Music app and you can play anything you’re in the mood for, using keywords like “energetic,” “soothing” or “somber”.

- Forget to arm your security system? With an app from ADT Pulse, your car can arm it from the road and also adjust your lighting or central heat and air.

Ford eventually plans to use this system in more than 1.5 million of its vehicles including the Expedition, Explorer, Fiesta, Focus, Fusion, and Taurus, among others.

There is already technology out there which can recommend destinations based on your driving habits. Our phones can already tell us jokes and have conversations. Maybe you don’t really need to watch the reruns. In the near future we will all have SARAHs of our own.
