The New Versa Note

Sometimes car makers have to decide where to spend their money when making a new model vehicle. Nissan faced just this question when redesigning the 2014 Versa Note. After researching this little car, it’s easy to see where the money went and, if your priorities match Nissan’s, this may be the perfect vehicle for you.

It has a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder 109hp engine which isn’t really all that powerful but it is very fuel-efficient. Add to that multipoint fuel injection with two injectors per cylinder plus continuously variable valve timing and Nissan boosts the fuel economy even further. A 5-speed manual transmission comes standard. The little Versa Note hides other gas-saving features like electricity-based steering and low resistance tires.

As if all these features weren’t enough, Nissan has designed its newest model to be supremely aerodynamic with a windshield that is tilted back, automatic shutters behind the grille that kick in to action at higher speeds, and wind deflectors underneath. All these cut the vehicle’s fuel consumption also.

Nissan spent a little on technology for those who depend on it. Options include an Around View Monitor camera, NissanConnect hands-free texting, and Google’s Point of Interest location services.

The inside has plenty of room for passengers, front and back. Rear passengers get an ample 38 inches of leg room. Nissan also added a hatchback which gives the Versa Note 21.4 cubic feet of cargo space. That rises to 38.3 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded down. However, here is where you begin to notice where the money did not go. The steering wheel doesn’t tilt and most of the interior uses plastic to cut costs.

It can get to 60 mph in 10.6 seconds, but you don’t buy this car for speed and power. With 31/41 mpg it is well worth its base price of $15,990.
