Jaguar Putting a Lid on the F-TYPE

Following last year's introduction of the F-TYPE convertible, Jaguar plans to put a roof over prospective buyers' heads with the F-TYPE Coupe. It announced this week that it will reveal the car for the first time at the 2013 LA Auto Show later this month.

November promises to be a super-busy, ADD-inducing time for car fanatics. This week, it's all about wild tunes and bling as impressive customs make their debut at the SEMA Show and equally flashy supercars and exotics make their debut at the Dubai Motor Show. Later in the month, another pair of major auto shows will also take place simultaneously, as the Tokyo Motor Show and LA Auto Show fall on the same dates.

We've already seen a few teasers from Tokyo, and the F-TYPE is one of the first interesting debut confirmations for LA. The car will be the hard-topped version of the F-TYPE convertible, but it will also be a sort of production version of the 2011 C-X16 concept, as Jaguar says that it delivers on the concept's "uncompromised design vision."

"The excitement generated when we revealed the C-X16 concept was terrific; so to now be on the cusp of what I can assure you will be a drama-filled reveal event in Los Angeles for F-TYPE Coupe is a very significant moment,"Ian Callum, Jaguar's design director, said without saying much at all.

Jaguar released a bird's-eye view photo of the coupe and the top doesn't appear to hinder its clean aesthetic at all. The teaser model has a glass top that creates a seamless transition between the front and rear windshields. The fastback roof appears to accentuate the F-TYPE's muscular rear thighs.

We weren't necessarily fans of the F-TYPE when it was first revealed—the timeless E-Type was a tough act to follow—but having seen it in person at various auto shows, we can confirm that it's a beautiful car in its own right. The coupe version will now allow more people to enjoy that beauty.

The Jaguar F-TYPE convertible comes in three different tunes: the 340-hp base V6, the 380-hp V6 F-TYPE S, and the 495-hp F-TYPE V8 S.

Jaguar will reveal the F-TYPE coupe at an event on November 19, the evening before the LA Auto Show opens to the media. The car will hit the North American market during the spring of next year. The car will also be shown at the Tokyo Motor Show on November 20.
