Four Of The Ugliest Cars Ever!

Over the past wonderful, invigorating, and very inspiring century of the history of automobiles, there have been some rides that have truly defined what cars are—or what they may be like some day—and then there have been the others. Perhaps a kind word to call these classic car flops would be a mistake. But in all reality, the best three words that can be used to adequately describe what these horrendous-looking cars truly represent would be as follows: The good, the bad, and the ugly (the super ugly, in all reality). Indeed, while there have been some major breakthroughs in the cars that we enjoy owning and driving these days—even if our auto bill negates that factor of joy in our minds when we get the statement in the mail each month—there have been some pretty sloppy mistakes (some of the ugliest cars ever to be made) that have been made along the way. To better enhance this perspective: these are, more than likely, four of the most hideous cars that have ever graced any showroom floor over the past hundred years of auto making.

The Peel Trident (1965-1966)
For some reason unbeknownst to many people, this three-wheeled monstrosity somehow managed to stay on showroom floors—and sell—for nearly eleven years, manufactured right alongside the BWM and other fine cars that are still around these days. This car, when you really take a good look at it, more resembles something kids would favor, like the popular Hot Wheels cars. It had only three wheels and offered spacious seating for two skinny drivers.

The Reeves Octoauto (1911)
An early American car that made its debut in 1911, this car was in par with the styles that were prevalent amongst early autos. However, if you take note of the picture you should easily be able to tell that this machine sports eight (count them eight) wheels, and not four. This not only slowed down the car when it was running and sucked gas like a thirsty camel, but it gets funnier. Later on the same makers unveiled a six-wheeled model that sold approximately one car! Big shocker there!

The Briggs & Stratton Flyer (1920)
Much like you may see people riding around on gas or electric powered scooters these days, these monstrosities represent the first batches of them. They were bulky and very gnarly-looking cars (if we dare call them that) that were released in the early 20s. Known as kit cars that ‘anyone could afford’ they were actually a hot seller for quite a bit. That was until riders realized that bicyclists were easily outpacing them.

Renault Dauphine (1956-1967)
Last, but not least, on the list of nasty-looking rides that somehow made it to the major auto markets over the years is the astute Renault Dauphine. Boasting 0-60 MPH in a mere 37 seconds, and not being able to generate more than seventy miles per hour, at top speeds—for some reason this car was a really big seller in Europe between 1956-1967—millions of units were sold to happy buyers who loved driving these ugly cars!
