2014 Prius Plug-In Priced Under $30K

The dropping of prices on hybrids and electric cars continue. Toyota has announced pricing for the new Prius Plug-In, dropping the base price by over $2,000, to help the model slide in just below the $30,000 mark. The 2014 Prius Plug-In receives that price drop without any accompanying loss of equipment.

Toyota will begin production of the 2014 Prius Plug-In this month, rolling models into dealerships in November. The model will base in at $29,990 before destination fee, a drop of $2,010 from the $32,000 base price of the 2013 model. The upgraded Prius Plug-In Advanced model gets an even more drastic price cut of $4,620 over 2013 pricing, starting at $34,905. The Plug-In qualifies for a federal tax credit up to $2,500, and California buyers can earn up to $1,500 in state rebates.

The Prius Plug-In gets a 95 mpg-e/50 mpg EPA estimate thanks to its 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with hybrid system. The more potent 4.4 kWh lithium-ion battery, which is recharged externally, allows the Plug-In to offer more robust all-electric driving capabalities than the standard Prius while still offering hybrid efficiency of 50 mpg. Toyota says that the model can travel up to 11 miles on battery power alone.

The base trim's features package includesDisplay Audio with Navigation, Entune App Suite, backup camera, USB/Aux and Bluetooth, unique 15-inch alloy wheels, Smart Key system on three doors, push-button start, and heated front seats. The Plug-In Plus model adds features such as a Premium HDD navigation system with Entune App Suite, SofTex-trimmed heated front seats, 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with power lumbar support, and head-up display. The available $2,610 Technology Package adds enhancements and safety features, including dynamic radar cruise control, Pre-Collision System, LED headlights and fog lights.

The Prius Plug-In is available in 15 states: California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, and Hawaii.
