2014 Nissan Versa Note

Since 2008 the biggest seller in the subcompact market has been the Nissan Versa. It’s a hatchback with all the focus on value. This year’s version is the Versa Note. Nothing fancy is found here. Lots of space but not an abundance of comfort. Except for the price. The base model starts at $13,990 and one with all the trimmins will cost only $19,280. There are no options for the Note since Nissan keeps the cost down by keeping everything simple. Things like navigation and hands-free texting drive up the price but, as already shown, not by much.

The engine is a 1.6-liter 4 cylinder with 109 horsepower. There’s not much power under there but, luckily, the car weighs less than 2500 pounds. Even though it takes a minute or two to get up to speed, once there it gets about 31 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway. Nissan also focused on a quiet engine and has produced one of the quietest vehicles in this class. The low weight and skinny tires make it a handling dream.

The cargo space is significant, coming in at 21.4 cubic feet, and the hatchback has an adjustable floor to make a cover storage bin back there. There’s also plenty of legroom in the backseat, even for an adult.

There are several cool features including an Around View Mirror which gives you a complete 360 degree view of your car and makes parking a breeze. Inside the front foot wells there are LED lights which come in 20 color options and work with the interior lighting when the door is open. You can turn them on and off, and even change the color, all from the steering wheel. There are accessories like spoilers and chrome exhaust finisher if you want it to look a little sportier.

There’s a little something for every car color taste also. The Note comes in Super Black, Red Brick, Brilliant Silver, Metallic Blue, and Aspen White for those with more mainstream tastes. If you go for something a bit wilder and more modern it also comes in Metallic Peacock, Magnetic Gray, and Morningsky Blue.

If you’re looking for a lot of value in a very small package, the Nissan Versa Note might just be the car for you.
