Hertz Adds Lamborghinis and Ferraris to Its US Rental Fleet

Hertz already flexed its muscles in an effort to increase its position in the standard rental car market; now it's going after a higher-end segment. The company announced that it plans to offer exotic cars like Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and Audi R8s for daily rental. It will compete against smaller exotic rental firms. The cars run a bit more than the subcompact that you may be used to on business trips and they're be available only in select locations.

The new "Dream Collection" jumps above existing high-end Hertz collections, including the Adrenaline Collection with its Ford Mustang GTs and Chevy Corvettes. The Dream Collection starts at daily rates around $400 a day and includes an impressive list of performance cars, such as theAston Martin V8 Vantage, Audi R8, Ferrari F430, various Porsche models, the Bentley Continental GT, several Mercedes models including the SLS AMG, and the SRT Viper. For those whose performance tastes run electric, Hertz also offers the Tesla Model S as part of the collection.

Any car fanatic knows that, while all those cars are exotic, some are more exotic than others. They are priced accordingly, with offerings beginning at $395 per day (Porsche Boxster) and working up to $1,500 per day for the Ferrari and Lamborghini models, according to Edmunds. The Vantage and R8 slide in toward the middle of the pack at $1,000 per day.

Your mileage also varies. Each car comes with 75 free miles, and additional miles are billed at varying rates, from $0.49 per mile on the Boxter to $3 per mile on the middle- and upper-tier exotics.

"The launch of Hertz Dream Cars gives consumers the opportunity to experience luxury travel at its finest," saidMark P. Frissora, Hertz Chairman and CEO. "The experience starts with a choice at select rental locations of some of the finest vehicles built on the planet. Additionally, the Dream Cars experience extends from special reservation channels to being greeted by a Hertz representative at the airport terminal, to a rental vehicle in pristine condition. We ensure the travel experience with a Hertz Dream Car will be unforgettable."

Hertz plans to launch the program at 35 rental locations around the country. The locations are primarily major cities, including likely suspects like LA, Las Vegas, New York (JFK), and Miami; it also includes other well-to-do locations like "Colorado Mountainsr" (which we presume to is Aspen), Orange County and West Palm Beach. The move follows the introduction of Hertz Supercars in the U.K. several years ago.You can find out more at Hertzdreamcars.com.
