New Jeep Cherokee Starts at $23K

Jeep introduced the all-new Cherokee revival at the New York International Auto Show a few months ago. The crossover, which has been absent for a decade, gets some radical new styling but enjoys a classically rugged build designed to excel off-road. Jeep announced pricing of the 2014 model this week and will get it to dealerships in the third quarter.

The 2014 Cherokee actually prices in lower than the Liberty that it replaces, starting at $22,995. In comparison, the 2012 Jeep Liberty, the last model year for the line, started at $23,395. Jeep will offer seven 2014 Cherokee packages, from the Sport 4x2 base to the $29,495 Trailhawk package aimed at serious off-roaders. Those prices do not include the $995 destination charge.

Despite the price cut, the Cherokee offers what Jeep characterizes as more fuel economy, more advanced safety and technology, better 4x4 capability, and significantly improved everyday on-road ride and handling. Of course, it also gets a complete makeover, too.

"The all-new 2014 Jeep Cherokee is entering the largest SUV segment in North America with an unmatched combination of capability, fuel efficiency, technology, safety, and value," said Mike Manley, President and CEO - Jeep Brand, Chrysler Group LLC.“ Jeep Cherokee is absolutely packed with content that includes numerous industry and segment ‘firsts’ that directly translate to a tremendous value for consumers shopping in the mid-size SUV segment, which boasts two million sales annually in North America and five million globally."

The 2014 Cherokee is still awaiting testing by the EPA, but Jeep promises a 45-percent increase in fuel economy over the 16/22-mpg 2012 Liberty, thanks in part to a new nine-speed transmission and aerodynamic design. Jeep estimates the new Cherokee Sport will get up to 31 mpg. The Cherokee is powered by an all-new 184-hp 2.4-liter MultiAir2 Tigershark I-4 engine and available 271-hp 3.2-liter Pentastar V6.

Standard equipment on the 2014 Cherokee includes a 5-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system, 10 airbags, electric power steering, Hill-start assist, remote keyless entry, and Jeep Cargo Management system including standard hooks and storage tote and available lifestyle accessories. It rides on standard 17-inch wheels with all-season tires. Higher trim levels offer a variety of upgraded equipment and amenities, including leather heated power seats and automatic headlamps on the Limited and trail-centric upgrades like skid plates, Jeep Active Drive Lock 4x4 system with low range and locking rear axle, and off-road suspension on the Trailhawk.

Find out more about the ins and outs of the Cherokee and its options in the press release below.
