Ford SYNC honored with Award

The future of car buying is going to get more complicated, at least if you want to keep up with the latest technology. Not only will you need to educate yourself on engine options, standard equipment, safety features, fuel economies, and available packages, you'll need to compare computer systems. Each year, more and more vehicles include advanced infotainment systems that keep you connected to the cloud. Unfortunately, unlike the old car radio head units, which were pretty straightforward to compare and use, each system uses its own hardware and software interface, making them difficult to compare from one brand to the next. Infotainment reviews and awards provide a helpful shortcut toward helping you identify what might work for you. Ford's SYNC system is the latest infotainment system to earn a nod, getting named "Best Traditional-to-Mobile Transition."

The award comes out of the Global Mobile Internet Conference (GMIC), Asia’s largest and most influential industry event, and goes to Ford SYNC and Ford SYNC AppLink. Ford says it is the first automaker to receive an award from GMIC. The organizers chose Ford's technologies because they believe that they will change how people use and consume mobile services in their vehicles.

"We’re extremely proud to receive this award, which recognizes the ground-breaking work the Ford team is doing in technology,” said Kumar Galhotra, vice president, Product Development, Ford Asia Pacific. "At Ford, we consider ourselves to be not just an auto company, but also a technology company. We are delivering class-leading in-car technologies to customers around the world, including technologies which enable our customers to stay connected in a simple and safe way while driving.”

Ford's SYNC system partners wirelessly with a driver's cell phone to deliver voice-activated services like calling and music streaming. SYNC AppLink adds the ability to use approved mobile apps designed specifically for use with the SYNC system. The apps are controlled by voice and/or vehicle controls and encourage drivers to keep focused on the road ahead while having access to some of the content they enjoy on their phones.

Ford has sold more than 5 million SYNC-equipped vehicles since the system launched in 2007. The system is available on a variety of cars, including the 2013 Fiesta, Expedition, and Super Duty.

Other manufacturers also offer their own connectivity systems, such as Toyota Entune and Chevy MyLink.
