The World's First Car Backflip ... In A MINI

Imagine for a second soaring 20 feet over the ground, peering at the hard asphalt below through the upside-down windshield of your car. Now imagine that that car was one of the tiniest minicars on Earth. That doesn't sound too enticing, does it? But that's what French driver, skier and stuntman Guerlain Chicherit put himself up to. MINI is calling it the world's first unassisted backflip by car.

Now if you follow car hijinks like we do, you're probably thinking you've seen a backflip before. And you're right, there have been other backflips, such as Rhys Millen's New Year's Eve flip a couple of years ago. There have also been other flips, like Rob Dyrdek's Chevy Sonic kick flip.

According to MINI, what makes its backflip different is the ramp. Its ramp is just a regular, "unassisted" piece of hardware, whereas other ramps have been designed specifically to send the car flipping. Also, other backflips have been attempted in other types of vehicles, such as the truck Millen used.

MINI has teased the feat but has yet to release all the details. We can tell that the John Cooper Works Countryman being used is beefed way beyond the stock version, but we'll have to wait for more information to know exactly what MINI's done to the model.

You can see most of the action in the video below but will have to wait to see if there's a clean landing.
