Ford Recalls Another 80,000 New Cars

From what it seems like, Ford has not put their best effort into the production of their entry-level SUV, the Escape -- ever.  Ford has issued a multitude of recalls for the Escape for just about every year the Blue Oval has produced them.  This most recent recall not only brings back 2013 model Ford Escapes built between October 5, 2011 - November 26, 2012 but also includes new Ford Fusion models built between February 3, 2012 and November 29, 2012.

Both of these models share the same 1.6-liter engine that serves at the heart of the recall. It seems this engine is apparently prone to overheating, which could cause fluids to boil and/or leak onto hot engine parts, which ultimately could cause a fire.

Ford has not stated a solution to this problem, which leads us to believe it has yet to come up with one. Until then, Ford is advising owners to contact dealerships so they may arrange for "alternate transportation" which hopefully means "free loaner car." Owners may contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332. Read on for the full report.

Summary:
Ford is recalling certain 2013 Escape vehicles manufactured from October 5, 2011, through November 26, 2012 equipped with 1.6L engines; and 2013 Fusion vehicles manufactured from February 3, 2012, through November 29, 2012 equipped with 1.6L engines. The engines may overheat leading to fluid leaks that may come in contact with the hot exhaust system.

Consequence:
Fluid leaks in the presence of an ignition source such as a hot exhaust system may result in a fire.

Remedy:
The remedy for this recall campaign is still under development. Until the recall remedy has been performed, Ford is advising owners to contact their dealer or call the Ford telephone hotline to arrange alternate transportation. The safety recall began on December 7, 2012. Owners may contact Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332.
