For The Love Of Driving: Four Minutes On A Fast, Curvy Road In Autumn (Video)

Here at Autoshopper, we love cars and vehicles of all kinds. Of course, that means we also love driving -in theory, at least. The average commute is filled with inching traffic, impatient drivers, big, diesel-spitting trucks and just a tad of face-reddening road rage. It's not exactly the idyllic winding-road commute in a roadster that you think about when you think about the thrill of the drive. So we're always on the lookout for videos that take us to that place, if only for a few moments. This is one of those videos.

The video takes us inside the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX R4 as it makes its way around the Waldviertel rally course in Austria. Austrian rally driver Beppo Harrach is at the wheel, piloting the car around the tight ribbon of damp dirt and pavement under the glow of brilliant fall foliage. He hits speeds as high as 128 mph and masterfully maneuvers around many a sharp, slick turn. It's an impressive piece of driving to say the least.

Unless you speak German, you'll have a little bit of trouble making out the asides and exclamations, but the video watches just fine without any dialog. Flashes of blazing fall colors interrupted by vivacious greens and somber shadows; confined forest bursting open into wide, lush field; blurry roadway spinning, spiraling and rushing in and out of view; and a spasming speedometer are a few of the things that will keep your attention.

The next time you're boiling mad at some jack bag trying to commandeer your lane on minute 47 of a highway-clogged commute, bring your mind back to this four-minute piece of superlative road and remember why you like driving as much as we do.
