Chevy Builds A Life-Sized Camaro Hot Wheels Car

Chevy is making boys' dreams reality at this year's SEMA Show. The automaker has revealed the Camaro Hot Wheels Edition in Las Vegas. Unlike most of the crazy one-offs and concepts at SEMA, the Hot Wheels-inspired Camaro will be offered for sale in limited numbers.

"Millions of us grew up playing with Hot Wheels," said Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet Marketing. "Offering a special production model of the Camaro Hot Wheels is an opportunity to bring those memories to life, for kids of all ages."

Running directly against convention, the nostalgic Camaro is designed to imitate the look of the model cars that imitate the look of real cars. It gets a vibrant metallic "Kinetic Blue" paint job with graphics and a set of red-lined 21-inch wheels. It's like a Hot Wheels car suddenly grew and came to life - something that every child collector wished and prayed for at some point. A set of Hot Wheels logos informs those not familiar with the Hot Wheels look about the car's inspiration.

In addition to its Hot Wheels-look, the special edition Camaro borrows equipment, including the upper grille and rear spoiler, from the Camaro ZL1. It also includes a ground effects package with front splitter and rocker treatments.

Inside, the car's black leather is stitched in red and black and tattooed with Hot Wheels logos. The inside of the doors get flame graphics; the sills get Hot Wheel logos; and the floors get smothered in premium, red-outlined floor mats. The car includes a MyLink infotainment system.

According to Chevy, the Camaro Hot Wheels Edition will be the first full-size, production Hot Wheels car offered for sale by any manufacturer. Chevy will begin a limited production run in the first quarter of next year. The Hot Wheels Edition will be available in both coupe and convertible varieties and 2LT (V-6) and 2SS (V-8) trim levels. The convertible models will not include the ZL1 spoiler.
