The BMW 335i Voted Must-See

The 2011 BMW 335i's Limited Edition was one of the cars selected for the “must-see” list of automobiles that debuted at the 2010 New York Auto Show that premiered recently. This sporty sedan features a single-turbo engine boosted to 320 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. Other than embellishing the car with the extra power, there is an optional 7-speed dual clutch transmission, which is a first for a BMW that is not an M model; the front and rear fascias of the 335i were revamped as well as the entire M-sport interior.

Under the hood of the 2011 BMW 335i, is the twin-turbo N54 inline-6 which has now been replaced by the latest N55 inline-6, which features a single twin-scroll turbocharger with direct fuel injection and BMW's throttle-less intakes. The output rating remains the same at 302 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.

As far as the exterior goes, not much has changed in the 2011 model; it is a little over an inch longer and BMW has upgraded the car with stronger chromed double kidneys (for safety factors related to pedestrians being hit, which is big in Europe).

Inside the cabin, the 2011 BMW 335i gets a new multifunction leather steering wheel, while the non-leather grip parts are of a better grade of soft-touch plastic. The iDrive functionality has also been improved; this version of iDrive now has a woman's voice that can actually go into your iPhone and read out your text messages; and later in 2010 she will read your e-mails out loud as well!

The iDrive feature set synchronizes with your calendar to-do lists on your phone. You can then program the software to search out and read aloud any preferred news items from your predetermined sources. You can also use your existing iPod/iPhone cable to plug into the car, so there will be no more additional cables hanging around. Finally, if your Bluetooth phone has a music play feature, you can choose tracks to play wirelessly on the in-car sound system.

Expect the 2011 BMW 335i Coupe and Convertible as well as the 335is to arrive in the U.S. late this month. This car reminds you that driving is meant to be a thrill. The BMW 3-Series continues to be a benchmark in the increasingly competitive segment, and the 335is will earn its spot in the Bavarian Hall of Fame.
