Domino's Teams With Local Motors For Ultimate Pizza Delivery Vehicle
Sometimes it takes the sordid mind of the great collective to come up with truly inspiring designs. Local Motors knows this better than most. With its crowd-sourced design model, Local Motors came out with the truly unique Rally Fighter.
Domino's has decided to team up with Local Motors to see what the collective can come up with in terms of the "Ultimate Delivery Vehicle." Help ensure your pie is delivered in style by designing the perfect transport vehicle.
Unfortunately, the "from the wheels up" designation indicates that Domino's is thinking inside the box. To me, the best type of pizza delivery vehicle wouldn't be wheeled at all; it'd be some sort of teleportation device that puts a piping hot slice of pizza in my hand seconds after I hit "submit" on my order. It'd also be connected to a pizzeria other than Domino's.
The contest, which began on Monday, challenges participants to work out the exterior, packaging, interior and surfacing. Domino's plans to award more than $50,000 in prizes to those participants.
"The Local Motors Community of over 18,000 enthusiasts, established in the principles of open source and co-creation, generates vehicles of the future," said Jay Rogers, Local Motors CEO and co-founder. "We are excited to partner with Domino's Pizza to design a worldwide, game-changing delivery experience for its customers by co-creating the Ultimate Delivery Vehicle."
Short of a teleportation device from a local Domino's competitor, I'd say that any delivery vehicle should be lightning fast and burly enough to deliver to rough, distant locations. An on-board oven to cook pizzas on the go and keep them fresh and hot would also be essential.
The contest will include several stages and run through February. It is being supported by a national ad campaign. You can find out more information and get involved at ultimatedeliveryvehicle.com.

Too bad they have been so RESTRICTIVE, in their rules; MUST have 4-wheels, NO ELECTRIC or hydrogen, etc. There is already an ideal vehicle in development, that would be inexpensive, economical, unique, meet 95 of their delivery needs and the Pizzas wont slide around in tight turns: View Link This small profile, head-turning vehicle would be perfect; with a pre-heated rack in the back, cooler on the floor! It TILTs in the turns, plug-in upon return for max range (over 60 miles), and a Wi-Fi GPS Nav System would have the Driver ready to go upon entry. AND the drivers would have FUN. and enjoy driving it!!
