Mazda Pushes Up The Mazda6 Debut

After saying that it would debut the new Mazda6 at the Paris Motor Show, Mazda has pushed the reveal date up by about a month. The Japanese automaker will debut the car at the 2012 Moscow Auto Show in late August.

We assume the pushed up debut has everything to do with a leaked photo raining all over Mazda's teaser parade. Mazda was on its fourth teaser, and we assume a fifth was coming, when a Russian blog leaked the first full photo. Mazda's announcement about the Moscow appearance was accompanied by that very same photo just a day later, so it appears Mazda is eager to take back its role as narrator of the Mazda6 story.

The Moscow Mazda6 will be Russian-specific. Its looks should be about the same as the models for other markets, and Mazda says the Russian show model will be equipped with 2.0-liter Skyactive gas engine, which should be the primary option on the US version. The 2.2-liter Skyactive turbodiesel may or may not make it to the US market, but will be available in other markets.

The show car will also include a six-speed manual transmission and i-ELOOP, the "world's first capacitor-based regenerative braking system." Mazda says the regnerative braking system will improve fuel economy by as much as 10 percent.

Mazda says that it will unveil "the complete lineup of Mazda6 vehicles" at the Paris Motor Show. To be fair, its original announcement about a Paris debut used similar wording about a global lineup, so maybe Mazda planned the Moscow/Paris split debut all along. That could help explain why it was teasing the model so heavily two months before the Paris show and why the picture leaked in Russia. We expect the Paris fleet will include a diesel version.

A few new official photos provide a glimpse at the Mazda6's profile and rear-end. Take a look at the gallery to check it out.
