Mazda Teases New Mazda6

A few short months ago, Mazda provided a preview of the upcoming 2014 Mazda6 in the form of the Takeri concept. Mazda is moving toward the production-Mazda6 reveal at this fall's Paris Motor Show, and it has released the first teaser clip of the car.

While the teaser clip isn't nearly as interesting as a sexy concept like the Takeri, it affirms that at least part of the production Mazda6 will look a whole lot like the concept. The clip gives us a look at the driver's-left side of the front fascia, showing a grille and headlight that look quite Takeri. The grille is the same five-point design that we'd expect, and there's a similar chrome line connecting the grille to the headlamp.

Chief designer Akira Tamatani explains some of what we see in the video: "The deeply sculpted face with sharp eyes gazing forward, defined by the chrome 'signature wing', instantly conveys to onlookers that this must be Mazda's new flagship sedan."

While the Mazda6 looks a lot like the Takeri so far, it should distinguish itself in some ways. Mazda's statement that the car will include many KODO design cues from the Takeri indicates that the car will change a little from the concept. We wouldn't be surprised to see those front fender curves and "katana like" body lines toned down a bit in production. The wheels will likely be replaced with something more conservative, too.

The Paris Motor Show isn't until the end of September, so we expect to see a few more Mazda6 teaser videos before that time.
