Jeep Asks: What Is 'Freedom Of The Open Road'?

Ok, we all love free money. And, following closely behind, we all greatly enjoy free gift cards. In the spirit of our Nation’s most red, white, and blue holiday Jeep has officially issued a Freedom of the Open Road Contest & Sweepstakes.

As far as we’re concerned that long list of descriptors adds up to a $500 gift card to REI or 30 randomly awarded $25 iTunes gift cards to participants which answer the following question: what does ‘Freedom of the Open Road’ mean to you.

Only the three grand champions of the contest get the REI shopping spree. So unless you’re merely reaching for a few iTunes hits, pop on those wordsmithing caps, shed a few tears, and find your inner wanderlust, because nothing gets auto journos more excitable than glorifications of our favorite past time.

A quick glance at Jeep’s Official Contest Rules will tell you that the submission period ends on 7/6/2012, but the promotion and judging is slotted to end on 7/20/12. Pouring through the legal mumbo jumbo (your welcome), the rough idea is that submissions will be accepted through the Jeep Blog via commenting on the original article.

From 7/2/2012 at 10:00 AM to 7/6/2012 to 11:59:59 PM, just about anyone can drop a comment and enter to win. Then a panel of Jeep judges will get together to decide who the three REI winners are and “randomly select” individuals for an iTunes jam session.

Straight from the blog’s mouth: “Does ‘Freedom of the Open Road’ mean navigating the ultimate off-road trail or taking the top off your Jeep Wrangler or cruising through the city on a sunny summer day? Maybe ‘Freedom of the Open Road’ means exercising the liberty and independence that our forefathers – and current servicemen – fought to secure for America. Whatever it means to you, tell us below and you could win!”

As a general rule of thumb, though, let’s remember that Jeep will probably want to publicize the winning answers. And in all likelihood that means the company will be looking for answers which feature positively framed Jeep references. In fact, looking at the promotion details, judging will be based on three criteria:

(1)Creativity/originality of the Story: 40%

(2)Relevance of response content to the promotion question: 40%

(3)Representation of and relevance to the Jeep brand: 20%

Indeed, the highest anyone can score without being relevant to the Jeep brand is an 80%. So let’s start dreaming of boulders, cliffs, sandy washes, and trips into the high desert with, none other than, Jeep’s latest Wrangler special Freedom Edition model.
