Acura ZDX Refresh Coming Later This Year

Acura reveals this week that the oddball ZDX sports crossover will be refreshed for the 2013 model year. While it hasn't detailed specifics just yet, the updated crossover will hit the market by fall 2012, so expect a full reveal within the coming months.

In a greater preview of upcoming vehicles, Acura says that the ZDX refresh will include exterior styling changes and new technology. The 2013 ZDX will be offered in a single value-added package.

The Acura ZDX was debuted as a concept at the 2009 New York Auto Show and launched in the 2010 model year. Acura describes it as a combination of a crossover, coupe and sedan. Though it's quite similar in form to the Honda Crosstour, it's built on a more capable platform, which it shares with the Honda Pilot and Acura MDX.

It'll be interesting to see what Acura does to the styling of the ZDX. With its fastback roof line, burley stance and small rear doors, the ZDX really occupies a class of its own. It does look like the awkward love child of a crossover and four-door coupe. Given that Acura describes it as a mid-cycle refresh, we assume that the main dimensions will remain intact, with some more subtle changes in the front fascia and trim.

The 2013 ZDX will hit the market in October, so we assume Acura will debut it at or before the Paris Motor Show.

Also mentioned in Acura's "What's New" press release, the RLX will launch early next year as Acura's new flagship sedan. Acura claims the sedan will offer the comfort of a large sedan with the handling and footprint of a mid-size. It will be offered in both front-wheel and AWD varieties.

This past spring, Acura began selling the ILX, which we first saw in Detroit. Acura describes the compact sedan, which starts at $25,900, as a "gateway to the Acura brand." The ILX is Acura's first offering to include a gasoline-electric hybrid option. The ILX Hybrid uses a combination of 1.5-liter engine, Integrated Motor Assist and Continuously Variable Transmission to deliver up to 39 mpg.
