Subaru Launches Online Guide For Summer Adventure

Having lived in ski and mountain towns for the past five years, I can say with confidence: the Subaru is the quintessential American mountain car brand. Sure, there are more capable vehicles out there, but it seems that for every one of those you see in the mountains, there are half a dozen Subaru Outbacks.

It comes as no surprise, therefore, that Subaru has launched an interactive online guidebook focused on outdoor activities. It's called the "Subaru Guide to Everything."

Just in time for the summer road trip season, Subaru's guide allows users to view and share their favorite hiking trails, campgrounds, dog parks, tourist sites, biking areas and restaurants. Since a guide like that would be pretty dull if it was totally empty at launch, Subaru partnered with Lonely Planet in populating the guide with 250 exclusive reviews. So you can check out what's there and then add your own favorites. The guide will be updated in real time with new entries and reviews from users.

"Subaru owners are adventurers. So we are asking them to help write the greatest social guidebook ever written," Subaru of America Chief Marketing Officer Dean Evans explained in a press release.

The guide is accessible on Facebook and via a free mobile application available at the iTunes Store.

The Guide to Everything seems like a pretty cool, if not entirely revolutionary idea. There must be hundreds of other sites that offer the same type of user-sourced information and opinions about travel destinations, but having one more won't hurt. Plus, it has an interesting grouping of topics that make it a good single source for a get up and go. Want to get out of the house (in your Outback or otherwise), but don't know where to go? Browse through local hikes, bike routes and points of internet and get out there.
