If you find the idea of "American muscle meeting Italian design" intriguing (personally, we're quite happy with American muscle meeting American design and Italian muscle finding its way to Italian design), you may want to keep posted to auto news over the course of the next month. Puritalia has teased a new sports car that it says combines those two iconic qualities.

There's about a month to go before the official debut, according to the teaser website that Puritalia set up. Other than that, there are no official details on the site. In fact, until today, we'd never even heard of Puritalia.

Autoblog.nl reports that the project is inspired by the Shelby Cobra. In fact, its model number is an homage to the Cobra's 427 cu in engine.

For its part, the Puritalia coupe will reportedly use a V-8 engine worth around 445 hp. Since we know it's American muscle driving the wheels, we'll assume that's a Corvette engine, which seems to be the block of choice for start-up European sports car companies. A 605-hp supercharged version is also rumored.

Most of the 427 is covered in cloth in the teaser, but what we do see is a large mesh grille, what appears to be round/oval headlamps, a big set of wheels and prominent side vents. The rest is left to the imagination, which for me isn't coming up with anything as sexy or timeless as the Cobra.

Puritalia will fill in all those visual details on July 1. We'll see how the car compares to its mentor then.
