Lamborghini Aventador J -- Showstopper!

It seems pretty clear that something we can all agree on is that it's about time Lamborghini really started making some flashy cars.  Thankfully, it seems like those lazy Italians over in Sant'Agata Bolognese got their collective act together and created a car that just might make a little noise among the supercar faithful.  The Lamborghini Aventador J made a couple folks start talking at the Geneva motor show a few weeks ago -- don't worry, we wondered why too.  Normally, pretty low key cars, the Aventador J are a true barchetta in the classic sense.  The low windscreen/windshield rises up off the body of the hood about as high as your average Hot Wheels car.  It is so low that the driver is actually required to wear a helmet in order to drive it legally on the street.

The J actually stands for Jota, which is a hark back to another one-off Lamborghini created in 1970 based on the Miura. The J picks up where the all-carbon-fiber Sesto Elemento and Reventon left off some years ago. Extensive use of carbon fiber makes this car ridiculously light weight. Lambo designers went so far as to use a new carbon fiber textile that is actually a patented design on the interior. The J also sports forged composite parts and forgoes air conditioning, navigation, and any semblance of a stereo (aside from that extremely vocal engine) in the name of weight savings.

The Aventador J is powered by the same wicked 6.5-liter V12 that runs the "normal" Aventador, and makes the same 691 hp @ 8,250 rpm and 509 lb-ft @ 5500 rpm. Also borrowed from its garden-variety sibling, the J sports the same seven-speed automated paddle-shifted gearbox. Lambo claims that the J can hit just over 180 mph on the top end, a bit off of the fixed roof Aventador, but you've got to give a little to get a little in life. So the Aventador J is a little slower on the top end, but like we said -- it's a small price to pay for a Lamboghini that will finally get some attention!

It seems that we weren't the only ones to think the J is a looker -- it seems that even before the car hit the show circuit, it was already spoken for by a secret buyer who paid a whopping $2.8 million. Yup, that's right the J was not a concept, but a real life, for sale, one-off car that now belongs to someone's personal collection. It's good to know someone finally got a flashy Lambo!
