Honda Takes Home Award For Best Value Retention

In its second annual Best Retained Value Awards, Edmunds.com finds that Honda has the best value retention among car brands. Runner up? Acura, Honda's luxury brand.

In a pretty strong performance, Honda scores 47.9 percent and Acura scores 44.6, giving Honda Motor Co. the non-luxury and luxury awards. The awards recognize the brands whose cars have the highest projected residual value after five years. The score is based upon the projected five-year value of 2012 models that launched before the end of 2011.

"Honda has long had a reputation for dependable used vehicles, and that is reflected in today's booming used-car market," explained Joe Spina, director of remarketing at Edmunds.com. "And with Acura beating out all other luxury brands, Honda's family of vehicles continues to expand the company's status as one of the best values available to car buyers today."

In terms of specific models, Honda wins the 'sedan under $20,000' category with the Civic, the 'SUV $25K to $35K' with the CR-V, and the 'vans' category with the Odyssey, among a few others.

Lest you think that Edmunds was playing favorites in awarding Honda and Acura its top two awards, other organizations like Consumer Reports and Kelley Blue Book have also given Honda and its models "best value" designations.
