Toyota Teases Sporty, New Sedan
The New York Auto Show gets underway next week, so automakers are taking their last opportunities to get us excited for what they plan to display. Toyota has released a teaser sketch of a sporty, new sedan, which should bring a little more flair to Toyota's line.
By all accounts, Toyota is sick and tired of being the reliable worker bee with a great personality. Japan's biggest automaker also wants to be known for its sportiness and emotion. Exhibit A: The GT 86/Scion FR-S. Exhibit B: New slogans. Exhibit 3: This sedan.
Assuming this teaser sketch isn't a great indulgence of the model to be unveiled in New York, Toyota is injecting some serious sexy into a sedan lineup defined by dull, utilitarian cars like the Camry and Corolla. Word is that this sedan is either an Avalon redesign or a replacement for that model.
In place of the 2012 Avalon's rather mundane, forgettable rear-end, Toyota instills some aggressiveness with a carved out fascia, diffuser, dual rectangular exhaust tips and more of a fastback roofline. If reports weren't calling it the new Avalon, we'd assume it was a new sports coupe concept.
Toyota refers to the model simply as an all-new U.S.-designed sedan with an "elegant yet athletic look," but media reports are pretty confident that it's an Avalon replacement/update. Toyota will reveal the car at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 5. We'll find out more about what looks like an exciting addition to the Toyota line then.
