The $400 Ferrari... Hair Dryer

If you're ever looking for a gift for that difficult-to-buy-for car fanatic in your life, you should note that most supercar makers have a line of lifestyle products, typically aimed at men. Sometimes they design these in house, as is the case with Porsche Design, and sometimes they license their brand name to other high-end manufacturers. It's kind of a cool way that the average guy can 'own' a Lamborgini, Ferrari, Aston Martin, and on and on.

The latest products to slide into our awareness are a pair of hair clippers and a blow dryer from Ferrari. The clippers will cost you a lot more than the Wahl kit you can buy at Walmart, but a whole lot less than an actual Ferrari.

Ferrari teams up with Conair's Babyliss in offering the hair care products. Because they don't want to give the impression that you're spending hundreds of dollars of premium for a pretty Prancing Horse logo, the partners describe the blow dryer:

This powerful high-performance professional luxury dryer is made in Italy and driven by an ultra-efficient high-speed turbo powered engine – designed and built exclusively for Babyliss Pro in cooperation with Ferrari. Specially constructed for maximum airflow, minimum weight and low vibration, the Ferrari designed engine delivers faster drying, making the BaByliss PRO Volare THE GRAND PRIX OF STYLING.

The Grand Prix of styling... rich. The blow dryer even includes a 'turbo boost' function that increases air power by 15 percent. The Volare V1 and V2 dryers give you 2,000 watts and Ferrari "V-12" power.

In addition to the blow dryer, Ferrari and Babyliss offer the Pro Volare X1 Clippers, which have titanium-coated steel blades and a Ferrari-designed "high torque" engine. Babyliss claims the clippers are twice as fast as regular clippers on the first buzz-through.

It appears these products have actually been around for a couple years. Babyliss announced that it will attend the media days of the New York Auto Show, providing free buzz cuts and clean-ups to journalists. The first media day is April 4.

The hair dryers start at $400 and the hair clippers $200.
