The GTA Spano Supercar

We'll say it again: We love the Geneva Motor Show. It's THE place for seeing supercar brands that we've frankly never or rarely heard talk of. Here in the United States, GTA colloquially stands for the popular video game series "Grand Theft Auto." Over in Geneva, it stands for an exotic car company that builds cars worth stealing.

The GTA Spano is Spain's supercar. The car is powered by an engine rivaled in displacement by a very few, an 8.3-liter V-10 engine that heaves 820 hp. Two transmission options are available to buyers: a seven-speed sequential paddle shift and seven-speed sequential manual.

The Spano rests on an exotic monocoque chassis crafted from carbon fiber, titanium and Kevlar. It weighs just 123 lbs. and keeps the car's overall weight down to 2,970 lbs.

The Spano hits 62 mph in under 3 seconds and tops out over 217 mph.

The car is more than just a massive engine and ultralight chassis, it's an attractive design with a glass roof, see-through engine cover and reverse-opening front trunk. Driver and passenger enter by way of a push-button logo rather than a door handle. Once inside, they're greeted by heated/cooled Recaro leather seats, carbon fiber and leather steering wheel, and a 7-inch LCD display. Buttons for operating everything from the glass roof's tint to the rear wing are at the driver's fingertips via the touchscreen display.

Other equipment on the Spano includes 19-inch front wheels with 20-inch rears, AP Racing carbon-ceramic brakes system with 6 piston calipers, a central rear-view camera, and active suspension control. Even though it keeps weight below 3,000 lbs, GTA doesn't skimp on equipment. The Spano has GPS navigation, Bluetooth, iPod connection, trunk remote control and other convenient features.

GTA will only build 99 Spano models, offering them in markets around the world, including the US, China, Germany and New Zealand.
