Nissan Previews Future Crossovers With Hi-Cross Concept

Nissan has teased a new concept vehicle that it will unveil at the Geneva Motor Show. Called the Hi-Cross, the model was designed to showcase the future of Nissan crossovers and may represent the first look at a future model.

Upon first glance, the Hi-Cross teaser doesn't look drastically different from Nissan's current generation crossovers. It appears to have a similar rear fascia to the Murano and Rogue, complete with roof spoiler. Some elements that differentiate the concept include what looks like a curvy beltline, a squared off front-end, and high, broad fender flares.

Autocar reports that the Hi-Cross is a preview of the next generation X-Trail, a boxy crossover sold outside of the North American market. If that's true, it brings some of the smoother, more refined curves of American-market SUVs like the Murano and Rogue to the X-Trail nameplate. Inside Line reports that Nissan would not confirm whether this is the new X-Trail, saying simply that it previews the "future design of Nissan crossovers.”

Nissan may have started a trend with one of its last crossover concepts. It launched the Murano CrossCabriolet in 2010, a car that essentially created a new niche: all-wheel-drive crossover convertibles. This week, Land Rover previewed the Range Rover Evoque Convertible Concept, which would join the CrossCab in that very same market if it is approved for production.
