The McLaren MP4-12C Lands In US (Video)

The McLaren MP4-12C made its grand debut on the supercar scene nearly two years ago. It is just now arriving in North America, and to showcase the car's entrance into the world-favorite supercar market, McLaren has released a new video.

For us car bloggers, the McLaren MP4-12C is old news, but for the lucky American folks that are counting their bills on the way to the dealer, it's quite a news story. So McLaren marks the occasion with a rather dramatic minute-and-a-half video that shows the MP4-12C rolling off the ship in Baltimore and driving through key markets like New York and LA.

McLaren has set up a series of 10 dealerships across the North America. Last month, it celebrated the opening of two of those retailers: McLaren Beverly Hills and The Collection McLaren in Miami. Other locations include wealthy cities and towns like Chicago; Toronto; and Greenwich, Connecticut (NYC).

The McLaren MP4-12C is McLaren's first solo road-going car since the world-record-level F1 of the 1990s. Unlike the F1, the MP4-12C is but a mid-level supercar. It features a 592-hp 3.8-liter twin-turbo engine that powers it up to 205 mph. It hits 62 mph in 3.2 seconds.

Those Americans looking to buy an MP4-12C can expect to start the bidding at $229,000. Of course, options will add plenty more to that base price.

McLaren plans to launch a new model in the North American market every year, so if the MP4-12C doesn't get your heart racing, there will soon be additional options, including the 800-hp flagship.

Those of us who aren't in a position to buy an MP4-12C will have to be content watching video clips like the one below and keeping our eyes peeled for some of the first models to hit the street.

Deliveries of the MP4-12C are now underway to customers in North America and Canada. To celebrate the arrival of the 12C, McLaren is releasing a video of the car and its first street drives across North America. The video may be viewed or embedded from McLaren Automotive’s official YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/mclarenautomotivetv

The video was shot in five locations across the United States in some of the key markets where McLaren has dealerships. Additionally, footage was shot on location at McLaren’s port of entry in Baltimore, MD. The footage includes the MP4-12C rolling off the cargo vessel Taisko which had just arrived from the United Kingdom.

J.F. Musial, Chief Creative Officer of TangentVector, directed and produced the video. Musial recently launched DRIVE, the new YouTube Original Channel focusing on creating original automotive content for the web.

The arrival of the MP4-12C marks the launch of McLaren Automotive in North America. McLaren plans to launch a new model or variant in the North American market each year, expanding its lineup and reaching new enthusiast audiences.

MP4-12C: Groundbreaking performance and technology

The MP4-12C features a 3.8-liter V8 twin turbo engine, which produces 592hp and 600Nm torque. The innovative sports car, which features no ‘carryover’ component from any other vehicle, is capable of reaching 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds (3.0 if fitted with Pirelli PZero Corsa tires). The 12C’s unique carbon fiber ‘MonoCell’ chassis weighs just over 165 lbs. and is a clear representation of McLaren’s motorsport DNA; McLaren introduced a carbon fiber monocoque to Formula 1 in 1981 and has produced every one of its road and race car chassis since using the same composite material.

Tony Joseph, McLaren Automotive North America Regional Director said: “This film is exciting as it represents the arrival of McLaren Automotive in North America. We are thrilled to be launching with the 12C, which is such a tremendously innovative car, and we look forward to building a long term future.”

McLaren Automotive is represented by 10 dealerships throughout North America. There are nine dealers located in the United States: McLaren Greenwich, McLaren Philadelphia, McLaren Tampa, The Collection McLaren (Miami), McLaren Dallas, McLaren Chicago, McLaren Newport Beach, McLaren San Francisco, and McLaren Beverly Hills. McLaren Toronto represents McLaren Automotive in Canada. The base MSRP for the 12C is $229,000 in the US.*
