Lamborghini SUV Confirmed (By Audi)

Earlier this week, some pictures alleged to be the upcoming Lamborghini SUV leaked across the Internet. Several publications and blogs tried to confirm the photos, and it appears one was successful. Like it or not, the Lamborghini crossover cometh.

What a sad day. We were really hoping those pictures were fake. Or at least that Lamborghini hadn't actually decided on the SUV. But, according to an Auto News report, the SUV is quite real.

After Autocar was told by a Lamborghini spokesman that the information was just "speculation," Auto News took the back door and pried the info out of an Audi manager. "I can't comment in detail but the speculation in the press is largely correct," the manager told the publication.

While that's pretty vague and open to interpretation, we can't imagine any executive would tacitly confirm rumors without the presence of lot of accuracy. In other words, we take it that Lamborghini has indeed decided to press forward with the crossover and that those pictures were indeed that model.

The report also reiterates the Beijing Motor Show debut and says that the SUV should join the lineup by 2016. Interestingly, it says that the sedan is still under consideration as a possible fourth model. I suppose Lamborghini will wait to see how the SUV performs and see if there's market potential for a sedan.

The SUV should use a version of the Gallardo's 570-hp V-10 engine and will share underpinnings with the next Audi Q7. Also rumored is a hybrid version with that same V-10 and a 107-hp electric motor.

While we're not especially excited about this thing, the information about Beijing leaves us wondering: Does Lamborghini still have a secret reveal for Geneva? If so, what will it be?

Rumors late last month indicated that Lamborghini would reveal the Aventador LP700-4 Roadster and another yet-unknown "surprise." Common sense said that the surprise would be Lamborghini's long-rumored third model, either a sedan or the SUV. Lamborghini had said last year that it planned to make a decision on the third model by early this year and would be prepared to show something when it announced that decision. The Geneva timing was all too perfect.

Now that it seems Lamborghini will wait on debuting the SUV, we're curious if it has a different new model to show in Geneva or if it just decided to push the SUV debut from Geneva to Beijing.

I defiantly dont think this SUV is going to be a big hit if it looks anything like this picture.

i completely agree with you i think they should have went with a different design or even a sedan that would have been great but i guess we will see how this all goes when they show it at Geneva.
