Is This The Lamborghini Crossover? We Hope Not.

Reports about the imminent debut of Lamborghini's third model have been gaining all kinds of steam over the past few months. It's largely thought that Lamborghini will debut a concept version of its third model at the Geneva Motor Show next month. A new article from Italy's Quattroruote magazine indicates Lamborghini will hold off until April to reveal the model. More importantly, some leaked images purported to be from the magazine show what the Lambo crossover will look like.

To be fair, everything we've heard about the Lamborghini crossover - particularly the bit about a crossover with supercar styling (rather than just crossover styling) - has led us to believe it would be one awkward-looking nugget. We're still not quite sure if these early pictures are better or worse than what we were expecting/fearing, but they are pretty bad.

The pictures show a small crossover with a clearly Aventador-inspired front end. And guess what? It doesn't really work very well. Who'da thought bolting a supercar face onto a small SUV body wouldn't make for the best looking piece of car? Probably millions (billions?) of people. If you thought the Porsche Cayenne was a disheartening sell-out, you're going to need some anti-depressants to make it through this one.

There's still a glimmer of hope. Last we checked, Lamborghini hadn't officially decided whether its third model would be an SUV or a sedan. Stephan Winkelmann was leaning toward a sedan, but word was that Volkswagen liked the idea of an SUV better. We hope that if this is indeed the Lamborghini crossover, maybe Lambo will reconsider and go sedan. We don't have too high hopes for a sedan, either, but there's no way it could be quite as awful as this crossover monstrosity.

On the other hand, this crossover is compact enough that it's practically a fastback-styled sedan. So maybe Lambo found a compromise and combined its sedan and crossover prototypes. If so, that'll be of little consolation to Lamborghini fans and the public at large.

One thing's for sure: This thing doesn't even deserve to be used in the same sentence with the LM002, Lamborghini's hard-core, military inspired off-roader from the late 80s and 90s.

The latest report says that Lamborghini will debut its new model not at the Geneva Motor Show - where it supposedly has a secret reveal planned - but at the Beijing Auto Show in April. While Geneva would seem like a more fitting venue for a huge reveal from a European supercar-maker, China represents one of the biggest, maybe the biggest, market opportunities for a high-end SUV like the Lambo crossover.

The latest intel suggests that the Lamborghini crossover will be powered by a V-10 engine worth around 570 horses, likely sourced directly from the Gallardo 570-4 Superleggera.

Don't look terrible, but it does look considerably "cheaper" than the rest of Lambo's lineup

Lets hope this isn't going to be their concept model cause if so they aren't going to get a good reaction. They should defiantly take the front end off and redo it and it might look a little better.
